Design: Deco(e)n

“So, that was Mrs. Lundegaard on the floor in there. And I guess that was your accomplice in the wood chipper. And those three people in Brainerd. And for what? For a little bit of money? There’s more to life than a little money, you know. Don’tcha know that? And here ya are, and it’s a beautiful day. Well. I just don’t understand it.”

Deco(e)n is a folly inspired by Joel and Ethan Coen’s cult-movie ‘Fargo’ of 1996 and finds its composition in the structure of this movie. On the one hand Fargo portrays an ordinary and familiar social order, while on the other hand the plot is driven by an ongoing eccentricity; a mindlessness that plagues the human condition, derailing our self-conscious motivations and distorting our understanding of one another and the world. Both extremes are merged into one another, leading to a dissolvement of the barrier between what is right and wrong. These absurd self-contradictory actions lead to the experience of a ‘paradox’. The folly is analogues to this ambiguity, expressing the dissolvement of barriers and a change towards the unexpected.
